Light, Line, Space
For my ART 240 project, I decided to focus on the still life provided in class. In the still life, there were different skulls placed, which is what I focused my composition on. The overall project is composed of two cow skulls leaning on each other, drawn on cream-colored Strathmore paper with graphite pencils. The overall composition works with some of the edges of the paper and consists of a variety of light and dark values, some that could be pushed in more or focused on more.
An aspect of the drawing that engages me and the audience the most is the darker areas that create depth in the skulls as well as the static or writing like effect that the cardboard creates on the skulls; such effect was created by placing the paper on top of the cardboard. The cardboard effect was not planned, but rather just happened as I continued to complete the project, hence why some areas lack that effect. The placement of the skull could have been more interesting since right now it seems to be very basic and uninteresting. For the next project, experimentation of styles and media will be my next route to conquer.
